Philip-Neri Bekuochi

Nigeria

As an African youth with a background in Environmental Health, my journey into this field has been both unexpected and deeply rewarding. Initially aiming for a degree in Medicine and Surgery, I stumbled upon Environmental Health Science, which soon became a passionate pursuit. I discovered the profound impact of environmental factors on public health and committed to using data analysis to address these challenges.

Africa faces numerous environmental health issues that hinder its development. Data analysis can identify patterns, forecast trends, and develop evidence-based policies to tackle these issues. For example, analyzing water quality and sanitation data can prevent waterborne diseases, directly improving community health. This aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as Good Health and Well-being, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

In addition to my studies, I teach health education at a local secondary school, sharing my knowledge and inspiring younger generations about the importance of environmental health for sustainable development.
